With a mother as a teacher, it isn't hard to see how sometimes our peers would think we were teacher's pet. While most of the time we loved our teachers, there were times they got on our nerves too. One particular occasion was when we were in middle school, and it was a Parent/Teacher night.

Swingers

Swinging is one of the funnest things to do on a playground as a kid. I remember how it felt the first time I learned to do it by myself. It was a truly exhilarating experience. 

Easy As Riding A Bike

Everybody has to get rid of their training wheels at one point or another. For me that was the easy part. I found the most challenging thing about learning to ride a bike, was getting used to hand brakes. My only downfall was the hill down to the playground at the park across the street. 

Double Take

Almost everyone I know at some point or another has learned to swim. Aspenn and I had an advantage because we had each other. It was so much fun to swim together, and we were even on the swimming team in our hometown together. This activity brought us really close as siblings, and we enjoyed each other's company in the pool.

Cat Bath?

One of the memories I have stuck in my head is of a cat Aspenn and I had helped take care of when we were very little:


Our dad came home in his beat up yellow truck, he had just been to the junk yard for some parts to another vehicle. On his way home, he had heard what sounded like a kitten meowing somewhere in the cab. Upon inspection, he found the little white kitten in the cab of the truck. He assumed it had gotten there sometime when he was getting in or out of his truck. Despite our mother's allergies, he decided to let us try to keep the cat.

Mommy, Am I A boy Now?

Having and older brother had many advantages. He would help our mother take care of us. He enjoyed the title of the Big Brother, and when he was younger took it very seriously. Sometimes, this was more of a disadvantage than an advantage.

The Twin Design

Having been a part of twin testing since I was a small child, I have always found the different tests we have participated in interesting. Lately I have spent more time trying to see where their research has gone. There are many groups that use this type of testing nationally and internationally.

Natural Clones?

As early as I can remember Aspenn and I have been involved with the Colorado Twin Studies program at the University of Colorado at Boulder through their Institute for Behavioral Genetics.

Milestones?

As a baby, our mother certainly had her hands full. If it weren't for the constant trips to the ER for ear infections, she is convinced there are some milestones we would have reached much sooner as infants. For her, it was a little creepy to realize her beautiful twins were always sick together... even when we were sick with a illness that was neither contagious nor infectious.

Twin daughters: one blond haired blue eyed and the other brown haired brown eyed. They are seven years old, in First Grade, and have their first homework assignment...

What To Wear?

I am sure that my doppelgänger would agree when I say one of the most annoying things was getting dressed in the SAME clothes!

Sleep? Who Needs Sleep?

Cribs are a common item that most parents get for their babies. However, few kids use them as a sort of battering ram as my twin and I did growing up.
